Lessons from 'THE POWER OF YOUR MIND"

This book was written by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and recommended by an amazing woman that is very passionate about the development of the young girls and women. A coordinated compilation of thirteen chapters written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that opened my eyes to the capacity of my mind. The major scripture of reference is Romans 12:2 which calls us as believers to not be conformed to the ways and patterns of this world but to be transformed by the continuous renewal of our minds. The mind is not a tangible body part, that is, it cannot be seen nor felt. Yet, this does not negate that the mind is the center of our existence. Whatever we have done or plan to do is first conceived in the mind before it is eventually carried out.

Based on scientific evidence, the brain has been called the primary center of for the regulation and control of bodily activities but I like to believe that the mind still controls what the brain does. When we see things physically, it’s on the basis of information received, processed and stored that we interpret what we’ve seen. One of the lessons I learnt is that we do not always have power over what our mind receives but we can choose what thoughts we dwell on. I’m not always in control of what I see every day but I don’t have to entertain negative or destructive thoughts. The Spirit of God which carries power, love and a sound mind is within me is at work and through which I can overcome unhealthy thoughts.

Another important tool (I would like to call it my primary tool of defense) is the word of God, the Holy Bible. This is an inexhaustible weapon of warfare against the lies of the enemy. These lies can be considered facts but as far as the truth, that is, the word of God is concerned it is not the final report. God has the final report. In John 14:6 Jesus says “I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. No one comes to the father except through me”. This should always remind us of whose word we should believe at all times. It is not enough that there is THE TRUTH, we must come to the knowledge of this truth as it is our gateway to freedom.

In conclusion, there is nothing we cannot do as far as the mind can see it. The accomplishment of many great things today started from the mind. The creation of man started first in the mind of GOD he spoke it into being. We must remember whose image and likeness we carry and realize the power of the mind.
