My two cents on money matters.
I recently saw the movie 'The Jar' produced by Moromoluwatiketike Abolaji, right after we learnt about the financial stewardship of a believer. It was such a timely watch because it highlighted the consequences of poor financial decisions.
Getting into debt and cloaking it in generosity is poor financial stewardship. What makes it worse is endangering your family and putting them in harms way all because you failed to take proper responsibility of your finances and home.
Now, here are some principles to effect financial stewardship:
📌 The principle of working: Whatever your hands find to do, do it well. As far as it is legal and doesn't cause anyone harm in any way, put your all into it.
📌The principle of budgeting: Sit down and count the cost of your living. Don't leave it to change. Sometimes, life happens but even at that, let life meet you prepared at least. This takes me to the next principle.
📌The principle of saving and investing: Don't eat up every single dime you make. I am an alumni of Grow with Renny Mentorship, an 8-week program that changed my life for the better. One of the lessons I learnt in that mentorship is spending, saving and investing by percentage. That is, apportioning a certain percentage monthly to expenditure, savings, investing and other engagements.
📌 The principle of generosity: It is more blessed to give than to receive. However, plan for this as well. Except in special circumstances, don't just give emotionally. Put a structure to it. Have a certain amount allocated to support your family, local assembly and the needy.
📌The principle of contentment: It is okay to desire to get better, earn better and do better. However, be contented with where you are at the time. There is a fine line between greed and ambition. Ask yourself how far you can go to get wealth.
If there are more principles you'd like to share with me, please leave them in the comments section.
But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
